Turkey, a photographic Essay

Fourty images where part at the Kunst 13 Exhibtion in Zurich for Gallery Max Bollag
All pictures were exposed on film using two Leica M6 and an Agfa Medium Format camera.

The selected photographs were captured between 2006 and 2009. The images chronicle several trips that I have undertaken; from Ankara to Diyarbakir, from Erzurum to the Black Sea highlands, and along the coastal regions from Izmir to Istanbul. The focus is on the disparities and the bond of traditions that characterize Turkish society.

The highlands near Georgia offered a glimpse into rural life, largely unchanged despite the passage of time, while the big cities like Istanbul and Ankara with 15 Million and more citizens revealed the economic spectrum, from traditional livelihoods to contemporary luxuries.

Each photograph in this series serves as a visual essay, dissecting the layers of Turkish identity.

The collection does not merely depict geographic diversity but delves into the societal fabric, illustrating  the coexistence of contrasting lifestyles in the cities and in the country side.

«The treasure of the Turkish motherland, the wealth of Turkish history, the Turkish nation’s apple of the eye, Istanbul is the city that has a special place in the hearts
of all citizens.
